Writer's Block: Home Remedies

When you get sick or have a cold, what's your favorite remedy to make you feel better?

View 1665 Answers

I've told some of this to a few people, so I figured I'd share it with everyone as cold and flu season will fast approach us. I'll save it as a memory too, and tag it, so people can reference it.

Mal (and thus Vappy) gave me the nickname Manda Stewart for a reason :) I wasn't fully acting in those rps.

So, a couple things.

Cough... Kitty can back me up on this one. I know it works, and she told me it worked for her. This sounds weird, but trust me on this one. Put Vicks vapor rub on your feet, and then put on socks. Yes, your feet. Something about your feet being good absorbers... I don't know. But it works, and it'll help cure cough. Although I should mention that if its daytime and you're coughing up mucus or something, you don't want to suppress that. Getting that up is actually better, as gross as it sounds. So use this method with dry coughs, or at night.

Sore throat... got this one from Kate's mom. Hot lemonade. I don't remember the exact measurements for this, but you take a glass of water, heat it up, and add about a tablespoon and a half of lemon juice, and like a teaspoon or two of honey. Really helps your throat.

And decongestant... I won't make really put up a remedy because different things work for different people. Humidifiers, vapor rub, medicines... but what works best for me is mucinex. I have bad allergies, and the only thing that will clear my sinuses (when I don't have a sinus infection, that is) when they're clogged is mucinex. I've heard the same thing from someone else too. But again, different things work for different people on this one.

I never understood freaking uptight people that make a big deal out of nothing and fight/argue every little thing.

This is about no one that reads this journal. No worries :)

Zenkaikon Auditions!

  • Jul. 24th, 2009 at 7:40 PM

Do you enjoy cosplay? Do you really get into your character? Concept Galaxy and Zenkaikon Want You!

Concept Galaxy is organizing an interactive production for Zenkaikon 2009, and will be auditioning cosplay talent from around the area to participate.

Audition Details

Date: August 15, 2009

Time: 12:00pm to 6:00pm

Location:
Radisson Valley Forge
Bryn Mawr Room
1160 First Avenue
King of Prussia, PA, 19406

Requirements and Criteria

Those who plan to audition should come prepared with a minute-long "in-character" monologue as the character they wish to play. Stephanie Chateau from Concept Galaxy will be hosting the auditions, and will be looking for cosplayers that fit into the categories listed below.

Naughty, Wicked, and V.I.L.E. Villains

Concept Galaxy is looking for talented cosplayers to portray their favorite anime or video game villain. Those who are chosen to participate in the production will act out the part of delinquents plotting to commit a heinous crime at Zenkaikon 2009.

Good Guys, Champions of Justice, and A.C.M.E. Agents

Concept Galaxy is looking for talented cosplayers to portray characters that fight for the ideals of truth and justice. Those who are chosen to participate in the production play the part of heroes attempting to stop the villains from succeeding in their plot.

Zenkaikon Host Announcer

Concept Galaxy is looking for talented cosplayers who enjoy making their own original costume designs. They are seeking a host or hostess to represent Zenkaikon and serve as its "announcer" for events that will happen throughout the weekend. The character should compliment "Zenkai-chan" – the official Zenkaikon mascot who appears on all of the convention's promotional material. The mascot theme for Zenkaikon 2009 is steampunk.

Those with additional questions regarding auditions should e-mail Stephanie Chateau at steph@conceptgalaxy.com. Also feel free to contact myself if you have questions!

We hope to see you there!

This used to be far more sad looking...

It's still sad given that I've barely left the east coast really, but at least this is getting better. :)

I have a twitter now. Not that I sold out (haha Brett)... but because of ustream. And ustream keeps shoving it down my throat.

Kagome_Yuy if you wanna add. The underscore is important, because there's already a kagomeyuy (I was like REALLY?). I had to still use the name and risk confusion with the other kagomeyuy because I figured most of the people that would add me would be because of ustream/youtube/lping/gaming stuff... so I needed them to recognize me.

And the wii games are...

  • Apr. 18th, 2009 at 8:39 PM

Super Smash Bros Brawl
Mario Kart
Lego Star Wars
Super Mario Galaxy

If people want to play Brawl or Kart with me, let me know. Yes, Alex, I know you're eagerly raising your hand and waving it in the air. XD

New semester has started. Whee. /sarcasm.

Actually, it'll probably be good for me to start getting in the grind again. As much as I dislike the work that I might have to bring home occasionally.

I'll have to get back into the groove. I stopped by the office for a couple hours yesterday and I ended up being bored as hell and wanting to fall asleep. Granted, I literally had next to nothing to do since the semester hadn't even officially started, and I was just doing a few administrative things, but wow. And I had to sit there for awhile because my mother had an appointment and her doctor is literally one street over so we decided it was easier to carpool. I shouldn't be so bored when things get going again, because I'll have too much work to have that kind of down time. I just hope it doesn't become so mundane and I get lazy. I got two As and a B+ last semester, and I'd like to keep up such a trend. I don't want anything less than a B+.

My first class this semester is a night class. So today is being spent cleaning, grocery shopping, and my dad has an appointment today. Truly, my dad's going to love that I have Tuesdays free until evenings. I'm only concerned that I'll be tired by the time I get to my night class and then I won't be able to pay attention. I'll have to choose my office hours wisely this semester. And holy crap, I haven't done research in awhile. I should get on that soon.

Speaking of cleaning, I remembered that I had not done my usual winter cleanup of my room, and so I did that last evening. It's far from done, but it's much better. I gotta go through my clothes next, and get rid of a bunch of stuff again since I bought a lot of new things.

CJ is made of awesome...

  • Feb. 9th, 2009 at 1:23 PM

And he totally told me on the phone that he loved me this weekend. I am just walking on air, let me tell you. XD

Go watch. Cause CJ and Concept Galaxy rules.

1) Wear two pairs of socks if cold.

Yeah. I forgot to do this even though my dad tried to tell me. I forgot anyway like five second after he said it. This is how my brain works people. I was so concerned with how to get there and directions that it slipped my mind

2) Wear a hood or hat if cold.

This wasn't as bad. It's just one of those 'would've been nice' things.

The hot chocolate hike at White Clay Creek is pretty cool because you get to hike at nighttime, and of course the park is usually closed at night. Kate said they do it every month the Friday before the full moon, so I'm definitely thinking about going again. It was just so nice and peaceful to walk around the park with the trail perfectly illuminated by the near full moon.

There were a bunch of kids that went too. They were hysterical. A couple of them in front of me kept purposely walking in the ice so they'd slip and slide, and then they'd laugh, and a kid's laugh is contagious. My mother always said that about my laugh when I was little, and I don't think I fully understood what she meant until I got older.

And later on they'd shout out "Are we done yet?" "I'm cold." "Can we go back now?" "This is boring!"

Which was so funny. I guess if you don't like children, you'd think it was annoying, but I happen to love children to death. And if you work at a state park, you probably love children as well, as Kate and the other woman leading the hike seemed to think it amusing.

So the kids were fun. And the hot chocolate was good. And I saw turtles and cockroaches and froggies in the Nature Center.

I'm thinking about buying a season pass to the park because what better way to get in shape than to hike? I love hiking. My legs feel so good right now. I just wish we could have walked a little faster, since I'm a natural power walker anyhow, but we had kids and a pregnant lady with us.

So a great evening. :) Yay.

Whee tired...

  • Jan. 24th, 2009 at 10:39 PM

But such a great day. Brian and I decided literally last minute to drive up to King of Prussia and shop at the mall up there. The mall is apparently a lot closer than I remember it being, but then again I've never gone the way we went. It was lots of fun.

We ate at Friday's, cause of course when you drive 32 miles you gotta eat at a place you can eat at back close to home, right? :) And he made me share this shaker drink with him but it was pretty good. And then of course we ate too much...

Green bean fries for the win!!!

But not to worry because King of Prussia is huge and so we had much walking to do.

We went to Old Navy and I got ridiculously awesome deals. 5 or 6 shirts for like 40 dollars. I was very pleased.

And apparently my dad scared the delivery guy while I was away. XD He's so mean....

Stolen survey thingy from Nick...

1. Name a movie that you have seen more than 10 times: Steel Magnolis

2. Name a movie that you've seen multiple times in a theatre: Nothing, actually

3. Name an actor that would make you more inclined to see a movie: Jeremy Brett; although if you want me to pick someone living: Sandra Bullock

4. Name an actor that would make you less likely to see a movie: I actually don't pick movies based on actors, unless it has Jeremy Brett in it. I've seen movies with actors I don't necessarily care for in them, simply because hey, it's a movie. Just a movie. And maybe it has a good storyline.

5. Name a movie that you can quote from: Napoleon Dynamite, although I share Nick's weird memory on movie quotes

6. Name a movie musical that you know all the lyrics to all the songs: I actually dislike musicals. Probably Grease or Grease 2 because everyone knows the songs from Grease, and I actually kind of liked Grease 2.

7. Name a movie that you have been known to sing along with: If I like the song, I might sing along. ... eh, unintentional rhyme there

8. Name a movie that you would recommend everyone see: Oh jeez... here we go. Um... Come back to me on this one.

9. Name a movie that you own: The Dark Knight, which ironically (and don't shoot me) I have NEVER seen.

10. Name an actor that launched his/her entertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops: Um... Madonna was really good in A League of Their Own... I can't think of anyone else right now.

11. Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in? Unfortunately, no. And they just tore down like the last existing one around here. What the _____ they were thinking I don't know.

12. Ever made out in a movie? Yes, unfortunately. I say unfortunately because it wasn't my idea. My boyfriend kept trying to make out with me during Shrek 2 and I ended up having to tell him to cool it because while we were in the back, there were still kids present. And you all know how I am about kids and being all motherly.

13. Name a movie that you keep meaning to see but just haven't gotten around to it: Revolutionary Road

14. Ever walked out of a movie? I wanted to walk out of Legally Blonde when I saw that in theatres because the first 20 minutes or so really were kind of painful to watch the first time. It picked up and I actually ended up liking it a lot, but I couldn't take that valley girl thing she was doing at first.

15. Name a movie that made you cry in the theatre: In the theatre? I'm not sure I've ever cried in a theatre.

16. Popcorn? Yeah, but I don't get the fake butter anymore.

17. How often do you go to the movies? Very rarely. I usually do like twice tops per year. It costs money, and you gotta find people to go with and all that jazz. And I can just wait for it to come on showtime or something.

18. What's the last movie you saw in the theater? Rush Hour 3... I think. Either that or Pirates of the Caribbean 3. I can't remember and don't care to look up release dates.

19. What is your favorite/preferred genre of movie? XD Nick, you crack me up... Um, I really like suspense and drama. Romantic comedy is always great (well duh I'm female and a hopeless romantic) but suspense or anything that mentally draws you in is amazing.

20. What was the first movie you remember seeing in the theater? Free Willy! WHOO! Cause my brother and dad were going to see Jurassic Park and I thought I'd be too scared.

Happy Birthday Kitty!!!!

Yay! It's your birthday! Hugs!

Wowzers....

  • Jan. 6th, 2009 at 10:39 AM

So I started a forum post on deviantart for two reasons... First, I wanted to see some weather related things, and I didn't see a post yet that already had that. And second of course, I thought it might get me some page views.

Last night it was pretty slow but nice... I saw some amazing things... It was lovely. It picked up a little bit around 2 am, but still wasn't overwhelming.

Now I wake up and there are 17 messages alone of people posting. Yikes. And I gotta get to them all. Because I'm nice and feel that I must do that.

Yay for music obsessions...

Which inevitably seem to strike me.

At night they would go walking ‘till the breaking of the day,
The morning is for sleeping…
Through the dark streets they go searching to see God in their own way,
Save the nighttime for your weeping…
Your weeping…

Singing la lalalalala la lé…
And the night over London, hey…

So we rode down to the river where the toiling ghosts spring,
For their curses to be broken…
We’d go underneath the arches where the witches are in the saying,
There are ghost towns in the ocean…
The ocean…

Singing la lalalalala la lé…
And the night over London, ey…

God is in the houses and God is in my head… and all the cemeteries in London…
I see God come in my garden, but I don’t know what he said,
For my heart it wasn’t open….
Not open…

Singing la lalalalala la lé…
And the night over London, ey…

Singing la lalalalala la lé…
There’s no light over London today…

So I got to play D&D for the first time ever last night. It went pretty well. And everyone was incredibly nice and very patient with me and my ignorance on literally everything. The guy that sat next to me was especially beneficial and always looked over my shoulder to help explain things to me. I was very pleased to have met them all. They even asked how I liked things at the end, and if I planned on coming back, which I said I did.

The only bad thing about the evening was that I really started coming down with something. During the day, my throat had been kinda swollen like, but I had thought up until that point that maybe I was parched or something. But it got worse, and I felt a little congested, and then the body aches started and well, you can't really deny that sickness was there.

So I was having a good time but also at times really wanted to go home and rest. But I didn't want to poop out on everyone in the middle because I was in their party now so I made myself fight the rest of the encounter.

I am Valandra, the mighty tank of a Genasi. Here me roar. And see all my cool lightning and thundery powers.

So this morning I got up and piggybacked my way into my mother's doctor's visit. My mother was sick too, so she drug me along so that maybe I could be seen too. Luckily the people at the office are some very nice people and I didn't see anyone else waiting in the office to begin with.

Apparently I have an ear infection... wtf. And something else I can't remember. Whatever it was it was probably triggered by the ear infection since the ears nose and throat are all connected. My ears don't hurt, thank goodness. They aren't really bothering me at all. But I wasn't surprised to hear they had a lot of fluid in them. And that I had signs of bad allergies, which was certainly no news to me.

And so I'm on antibiotics now and I'm happy to say that I feel a difference already. My congestion is pretty much all gone, and while I still feel slightly achy and off it's not as bad as it was. And the throat has really gone down. So yay.

I'm supposed to sing Christmas Eve for crying out loud. :)
